Canada’s Defence Minister Strengthens Middle East Ties Through Qatar Visit

Minister David J. McGuinty has completed a visit to the Middle East focused on expanding Canada’s defence partnerships and industrial cooperation. The trip underscores the Government of Canada’s commitment to diversifying its defence relationships in the region.

During his time in Qatar, McGuinty met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The bilateral meeting addressed mutual defence interests and potential areas for collaboration between the two nations.

The visit represents part of a broader Canadian strategy to strengthen defence ties across the Middle East and explore new opportunities for industrial partnership and cooperation.
