Eta Aquariids Meteor Shower Peaks Over Qatar

The Eta Aquariids meteor shower will reach its peak tonight, offering skywatchers across Qatar an opportunity to observe one of the year’s most active celestial events. The meteor shower will be visible from 10pm until dawn, with approximately 50 meteors expected to streak across the sky per hour at its height.

The annual Eta Aquariids display occurs between April 19 and May 28 each year, but tonight marks the optimal viewing period. According to the Head of the Qatar Astronomical Center, observers can witness this phenomenon with the naked eye by facing the southeastern horizon.

For the best experience, the Qatar Astronomical Center recommends traveling to remote, low-populated areas away from city lights. Ideal viewing locations include Sawda Natheel, Zekreet, and Al Khawr, where minimal light pollution will enhance visibility of the meteors.
