The programme represents a direct response to regional disruptions, including conflicts affecting maritime routes and potential closures of the Strait of Hormuz. These vulnerabilities have prompted the UAE to reassess its dependence on traditional supply corridors and explore alternative pathways for essential goods.
The move aligns with the UAE’s broader strategic shift toward greater autonomy, exemplified by its recent exit from the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.
