Saudi Arabia Boosts Local Content in Government Procurement

Saudi Arabia has achieved a significant milestone in its economic diversification efforts, with local content in government procurement reaching just over 51 percent. Industry and Mineral Resources Minister Bandar Alkhorayef made the announcement, highlighting the country’s progress toward supporting domestic industries and businesses.

The achievement reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the local supply chain and creating economic opportunities within the kingdom. By prioritizing Saudi companies and products in public sector purchasing decisions, the government aims to stimulate growth across various industrial sectors and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.

Looking ahead, Saudi Arabia has set an ambitious target to increase local content in government procurement to 70 percent by 2030. This goal aligns with the country’s broader transformation vision, which seeks to diversify the economy beyond oil and develop a robust domestic industrial base capable of meeting government and private sector demands.
